Made-to-measure-garments

I have designed and constructed garments for many years, working in the fashion and textiles industry as well as on a freelance basis.

The made to measure bespoke service for a customer starts with a discussion of the requirements and sketching of their design. Measurements will be taken, and a block will be drafted to customer measurements. (The creation of a block uses specific customer measurements to create a foundation for a perfectly fitting garment). The drafted block will then enable me to cut a well-fitting pattern to the design and style requirements of the customer.

A calico toile will then be construced (A toile is created by cutting out the pieces of the construced pattern in calico, and then sewing the pieces together, to check if the pattern for a garment is achieving the correct fit to meet with customer expectations). When the customer is happy with the style and fit of the toile the garment pieces will then be cut in their chosen fabric and the final garment can be made.

The process of making a made to measure garment is time consuming with many intricate processes, but if each process is followed, I can ensure the completion of a high-quality well-fitting garment that the customer will love.

Clothing Alterations

Clothing alterations and garment reconstruction is a service that I have offered for many years. With the skills and experience to provide an excellent seamstress service, you can trust that your wedding gown will fit perfectly.

Understanding how garments should fit and how to alter clothes to achieve the best fit is second nature to me.

I love altering excellent quality garments (specialising in bridal wear) and fully appreciate the importance of achieving that perfectly proportioned and fitted garment.

Prices for wedding dress alterations vary depending on the amount of work that is required.

This garment is an example of my recent innovative research into zero waste clothing design, utilising zero waste pattern techniques to create sustainable occasion wear garments.

This is my latest up-cycled wedding outfit which consists of bridal wear separates that can be utilised for future use.

Sustainability Initiatives

When studying for my MA Fashion and Business. I researched sustainable working practices in the fashion, textiles and clothing industries.

I have researched sustainable methods of designing clothing and I have specialised in how zero and low waste methods affect the industry as a whole and the benefits that can be obtained by adopting these methods of working.

I also researched up-cycling methods for wedding dresses.

The knowledge that I gained can be used to contribute towards a sustainable future for the fashion & clothing industry.

This is an underlying value I have personally and as a business and something I am extremely passionate about.
